These 3 easy tips can noticeably boost your search engine ranking

The M.O. of search engines is to provide the most relevant results to your search query. These 3 SEO techniques will help you tell the search engines what your website is about. Here they are:

  1. Use HTML HeadersSearch engines make use of HTML, the programming code of websites, to help determine what a website is about. One of the key pieces of HTML code used by search engines is the header tag. An HTML header looks like this:
    <h2>Discover how to cure your fear of public speaking</h2>

    Headers tell the search engine that the text in the header is a key concept in the website. Any words in your header become prioritized as keywords. So in the example above, the phrase “fear of public speaking” or “cure fear of public speaking” are prioritized to the search engine. This strategy is a fantastic way of telling search engines (and human readers!) what your website is all about.

  2. Use the ALT propertyALT tags are also part of HTML and can be used in images, videos, mp3 and links. Here are a few examples:
    <img src="/images/lifecoaching.jpg" alt="Life Coaching NYC" />
    <a href="/fearofpublicspeaking.html">Cure Fear of Public Speaking</a>

    On the website the alt property will display the text when you scroll over the link or image. For people who have seeing problems, software will actually verbalize the alt property text. For search engines, the alt property is another way of telling them what the focus of your website is about.

  3. Use keywords when naming filesAre you starting to get the picture of how SEO works? The basics of SEO is focus. Likewise, when you’re naming your image or html files, be sure to use keywords in the name. Check out the file names in the example above. lifecoaching.jpg and fearofpublicspeaking.html. Another great way to tell the search engines what your web page is about.

That’s it folks!
