Use images, photos, videos and update often to catch your patients

June 17, 2010

Google recently released a major update to the way they search and provide results. They named their release Google Caffeine. Let’s see how you can take advantage of these new features to attract more and better patients.

Optimize for Google Caffeine Search

Check out the left side of the page when you do a search in Google. You’ll see options to refine your search for images, photos, videos, maps, discussions, blogs and more. Now your prospects have more options in the type of content they’re looking for.

If you only have a straight forward website, you have a much lower chance of being found by potential patients compared to a website that has images, video, blogs, and more. You don’t have to put the whole world on your website, but play with your website. Make it evolve as your practice evolves.

Ideas to try out:

  • Photo/Image Galleries
  • Simple videos introducing yourself or touring your practice
  • Blogs – do a posting a week

Update your site frequently to catch Google’s eye

You’ll notice below the options to search on different content types, there is a time frame. Now you can easily filter the search results for when it was published to the web. If your website hasn’t been updated in 3 years, forget about it. You’ll be pretty much dropped from Google’s search. There is just too much content on the web for Google to maintain outdated (and maybe abandoned) websites.

So this means pay attention to your website. Its not like a business card that once designed, only needs printing. You need to feed your website and your website thrives on new content.

Ideas to write about:

  • Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) on your practice
  • Do a FAQ on frequent patient problems
  • Do in depth articles on conditions/illnesses/injuries that are often misunderstood

Not only will you help your patients, but you’ll attract more visitors (and you might not have to repeat yourself so often during your patient sessions).

These are a few ideas to take advantage of Google and other search engines. To find out how we can work together to improve your patient base, take a look at our services and contact us.

Good Luck!
