What does Ocean Tara mean?

May 18, 2010

I’ve sailed, surfed, swam, windsurfed, jet skied, water skied, wake boarded, and lounged in the water. I’m a fan of most things on or in the ocean. From a business metaphor point of view, the ocean is strong, fluid, abundant, supportive, patient, detached, consistent, and unpredictable among other qualities.

I’ve traveled in the far east, in particular Nepal and Tibet, and have grown a love for Buddhist etiquette, humor, and insights. In Buddhist cosmology, the Taras are a group of female deities who choose to work for the welfare of humanity, the planet and nature. In recent times, corporations and businesses have been vilified as taking advantage of their customers and damaging the environment. Not all businesses are like this and we have some recent examples of businesses striving to do successful business that delights their customers and works in balance with their environment. Perhaps Google’s Do No Evil policy is the most publicly visible.

Small businesses in particular are very close to their customers and cognizant of their impact on their communities. I believe business can be a profession of service. All of the clients I’ve been fortunate enough to work for take their businesses and their level of service to heart. I hope its not too far of a stretch to think that as small business owners our ideals are to make our small piece of the world better, more efficient and a good place for us and our neighbors to live.

While I feel that how we can help you improve your business is far more important than what we name the business, I like the imagery of combining the metaphors of Ocean and Tara. We help Taras (businesses, organizations, non-profits, government, and entrepreneurs) improve their web and mobile software. We accomplish this using the qualities inherent in the ocean. Instead of following the status quo, using dated technologies, we use the latest proven technologies to help you quickly and sustainably increase your business. We’re fluid and work with your unique problems. We’re consistent and will always be available to help you. We’re supportive and give you tons of free How To’s and articles. We’re patient and are more concerned with having you as our customer for years, then making a quick sale.

So if we haven’t met you yet, please reach out to us. We’d love to learn about you and your business and how we might be able to help you.

  1. “water shapes its course according to the nature of the ground over which it flows;…” – Sun Tzu, “the Art of War” In business, considering the water is the product, the service, and the ground is the clients/customers, one will understand how to approach the clients and make a successful business relationship with them.
this is just my little echo of the meaning of Ocean, adding to what you have interpreted it. Good name! :)
